A beautiful Spring morning, and its a perfect day to play around with flowers. Our Spring Floral Design Workshop was a collaborative event with the Sweet Beat Cafe.
We wanted to keep the workshop plant-based, local and seasonal. Therefore all the flowers used were grown by us, in a local Sligo garden. We supplied the flowers, equipment, as well as the structural willow rods used for the wreaths. The willow was a special variety, thin and very flexible with a gorgeous yellowing bark. We off set the yellow willow with lime green coloured willow also, and the contrasting colours really added the the willow wreath.
Each student learned how to pre-bend the willow and then fashion it into a circular wreath shape. We then filled in the wreath with different coloured foliaged shrubs such as Hebes and flowering Heathers. These plants work well out of water and looked great. Another gorgeous garden flower that can handle being out of water is Hellebores. Often the first thing to flower in the year, these humble but beautiful flowers had been doing their thing since early December!
We also used tulips, and herbs like rosemary to add a subtle scent to the arrangement.
All seven students worked hard on their designs and each wreath really showed the variety of design and personality. The Sweet Beat kindly provided plant-based yummy cookies as well as some delicious coffee. And there were smiles all round.
The cost of this workshop was €32 pp. incl coffee and snacks, and of course the beautiful arrangement to bring home.
Right now we're... Looking forward to our Summer Floral Design Workshop in a few weeks. Keep an eye on our Facebook page by clicking on the link in the website footer, or sign up for our newsletter on our Homepage for monthly updates. Be the first to know when something is happening!
