Space to Grow has been forging a reputation as a competent, progressive horticulturalist, whose work is focused on gardening with an important social aspect. The aim of this community based work is to bring people together and interact through the medium of gardening and growing food.
Committed to social gardening, Sophie Skinner, a qualified Organic Horticulturalist has been working with varied garden groups for a number of years. Many of which she raised from the ground up, and continues to help progress and grow.
Sophie qualified in Organic Horticulture, QQI LEVEL 5 with a distinction, studying subjects such as Organic Conversion, Organic Soil Management, Organic Crop Protection and Principles of Plant Growth.
Sophie has also completed a Permaculture Design course, QQI Level 5. Permaculture is the study of natural systems with a view to reusing these in our daily lives, and creating whole systems that work in a more efficient and sustainable way. Sophie has worked on water harvesting, composting, nutrient cycling and animal husbandry systems. This course was presented at Ireland's first Eco-Village in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary.
When she's not outside in the garden, you can find Sophie by the sea with her little boy. She is a sailor, dinner party enthusiast, and loves listening to other people's stories.
